Great for more ideas
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
“Ready” was one of the first SAR books I had read, but it gave me so many ideas as were to go next. I kept a full page of little notes from this book on what I really wanted to remember. It gave me many new ideas. This has to be one of the best books available for those getting into the SAR dog, or just wanting some more training ideas.
THIS IS “THE” BOOK ON SEARCH AND RESCUE!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This easy-to-read, well-researched book by an obviously experienced search and rescue person covers everything from the history of Search and Rescue through every possible aspect of training, including the basics of how a dog begins to learn. Illustrated with photos and sketches, this book provides a wonderful resource for anyone interested in Search and Rescue. It’s no wonder this book was nominated as a Best Book of The Year by The Dog Writers’ Association of America! It’s a job well-done by an author with first-hand knowledge of her subject.
Great book, begginers first choice!!!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is a great book if, you’re either starting SAR work or just want to know what’s it all about! It’s clear, well written, with many b/w photos and drawings. It’s easy to follow and to understand all the basic’s. However, if you want to buy something, very complete, you have experience, etc. This may not be what you’re looking for. Still, I’ll add it to my collection!!!
Excelent, easy to follow

Excelent, very good book, easy to follow, if you know the basics of training. (operational cond.). If you’re interested in SAR, this is a MUST. I begin in this, asking for the best books, all the people involved in this, recomended this as the 1st. choice….

As a dog lover just starting in the training of a golden retriever I found this book to be clear, concise, easy to follow. In fact a beginners delight!
Each section is full of “how to” information that follows a logical step by step process to achieving the goal of a superbly trained dog/handler.
Ready is welcomed by those responsible for SAR
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
The functions of the SAR dog, Choosing the Dog, socialization, Concepts of Dog Training, Getting Started and Wind, and Scent and Dog chapters are excellent.
The book’s organization and training format make it easy to use.
Excellent training in an easy format

Susan Bulanda’s READY! is an excellent book for begineer and expert alike. The methodologies of dog training outlined in the text have provided our team with an invaluable resource. The training “problems” outlined for the reader are also an excellent training tool for canine rescue teams.
Great Guide to beginnning your SAR canine
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Great book for gettting the basics for beginning Search and Rescue work with a canine. Book gives a step-by-step approach to training the canine as well as the handler. I recommend this book to anyone that needs information in canine SAR work.
Good information – bad pictures
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This book offers thorough information about search and rescue work as well as tips for picking, training and handling your SAR dog. Even though it has some nice drawings of SAR work and -dogs from Nina Bondarenko the photographs are bad and quite old. My issue is the fifth printing, published in 2002 and it would have been nice if some recent photographs of better quality could have replaced the original ones from 1994.
All in all a very good and informative book about SAR training, forget most of the photographs.
Practical and throroughly researched
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Susan Bulanda’s new book “Ready!” explains how to train a handler (and the dog). Starting with a brief history of dogs in Search and Rescue, it provides an overview of the training required to attain the necessary SAR skills-for both handler and and dog. Specific commands, and article retrieval and finding are presented in an easy-to-follow format, with training goals, methods, testing and problems clearly described.
A practical and thoroughly researched book
